Starting with version 2.1 we've added the option to use MP4 video files in the Screencast-O-Matic screen recorder editor. You can do this either by Importing an MP4 video into your list of existing recordings, or when editing a screen recording you can using the Insert tool and choosing to insert a Video File which is useful for things like adding an intro video that you may have created with another app. There are a few things to note if you try importing a screen recording that you previously published to an MP4 video file. When you import a published screen recording from an MP4 file then some editing options won't be available. For example here's a screen recording we just made using the screen recorder. When we go in to edit this recording we have options to individually edit the cursor and webcam for example to hide them by clicking these boxes. If we publish this screen recording to an MP4 video file and then import that file and go into the editor we no longer have the option of individually editing cursor and webcam since those are baked into the video file when you publish the screen recording. Also the audio for the video file will show up as one track under "Computer Audio". You also won't see any of the original edits you made prior to publishing listed on the timeline since that information isn't contained in the video file. But you can still add new edits to Cut, Replace, Narrate, Insert More etc then re-publish to save to a new MP4 file or upload. We're releasing this new import MP4 file feature as a beta, so if you have any issues or questions please let us know.
