This is a quick intro to the Screencast-O-Matic app for Brightspace. This tutorial assumes the Screencast-O-Matic LTI App has already been installed by your Administrator. You can easily add a recording as part of an announcement. On your course homepage, click "Create a post" and type in your announcement. In the menu below your post click "Attach Link to Existing Activity" and select "External Learning Tools from the list. Select "Screencast-O-Matic". Now click the "Screencast-O-Matic" link you just created. If it's your first time using Screencast-O-Matic then you'll see a box like this so you can setup an account using your Brightspace login. If you already have a Screencast-O-Matic login then you can also click this link to login with that account or if you've previously logged in at Screencast-O-Matic.com then the app will just use that login and skip this step. Once you're logged in you'll be shown a list of your current uploads at Screencast-O-Matic.com so you can easily click to embed a video. If you'd like to create a new recording then you can click this button to launch the recorder from your browser. If you haven't used our recorder before on this computer then you may be prompted to download and install the recorder to get started. Once you've made your recording then you can give it a title and upload it to your Screencast-O-Matic.com account. After the upload is finished you'll see a preview of the embed with some options for how the embed will appear in Brightspace. Clicking the Embed button will add that embed to your post then when your students click on that post link they will see the video ready for playback. Team Pro Hosting users can also embed an entire video channel or the screen recorder for student assignments. You can add the app as an activity in any Brightspace course module. On the course top level menu select "Content." Select a module or create a new module. From within a module, click "Add Existing Activities". Select "External Learning Tools" from the drop down menu A form appears. Click "Screencast-O-Matic" to add the app as an activity. From the drop down menu next to Screencast-O-Matic, select "Edit Properties in Place" and give a title and description to your activity. Open the activity you just created. Go to the Channels Tab. Select a channel to include. Click embed channel and when your students access this activity the video channel will be available for viewing. To add the recorder for student assigments, go to the Recorder Tab and select the channel where you want student videos uploaded. Click embed. Students can now access this acvitity and create their own videos for an assignment. The videos they create can only be uploaded to your channel on Screencast-O-Matic.
